The 1804 U.S. Silver Dollar
There are a lot of famous silver coins in the world, but, possible, one of the most world-famous silver coins is the 1804 U.S. Silver Dollar. It’s not just the most well-known coin, but one of the most expensive. As you can see the price is really high, over four million dollars for each coin (the most paid for any silver coin in the whole world).

Here you can find an interesting fact! Actually, no silver dollars were minted in 1804. If you find a silver coin with a date stamp 1804 it would certainly be the one was minted either in 1834, or in the 1850’s. And the most important that none of them were intended to be circulated.
There were really many reasons for that. The first reason was that the price of silver was rising too fast. The second reason was that silver dollars were disappearing. In 1803 there was a new law about silver coins. The government of the US decided to stop for a while silver coin production with none minted in 1804
During 1834 silver dollars were used for diplomatic gifts. That’s how the sets of these coins were finished. Then some coins of 1804 were struck. And nowadays these very coins are referred to as so-called original silver coins. The alternative name of these coins is Class I 1804 dollars.
It is said that just eight genuine 1804 silver coins left in the world. The names of the owners aren’t known. But there are some interesting rumors. It is thought that the King of Siam (Thailand) and the Imam of Muscat got these unique coins as the part of the set. As a present you know.
In the silver coin catalogues you can get some more useful information about these very coins. There is also another coin classification. You can also find Class II and Class III 1804 silver dollars. They were struck and presented to the prominent numismatists of that era (during the late 1850s). There are very few of them left either. In fact just 7 specimens are known to exist.
These coins weren’t in the circulation. They are really rare and unique. In case you find in your friend’s collection these coin, be sure, it’s fake. If your name isn’t Trump. If you still find the 1804 U.S. Silver Dollar, you should go to a local numismatic association and proof that these coins are genuine. It will be a real bargain if you buy it fir a sing, because it’s quite impossible. But who knows. Good luck! And Go Ahead!

I don’t have the diametre of these coin at this time, I will check and post it for you. The silver dollar was authorized by Congress on April 2, 1792. Weight and fineness were specified at 416 grains and .8924 fine. The weight was changed by the law of January 18, 1837, to 412 grains and .900 fineness.Until 1804, all silver dollars had the value stamped on the edge. HUNDRED CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT. There are only 18 known 1804 Silver dollars. If you bought all you coins from the same person, I would say they are copy or replica coins. I hope this helps you. If you need more information this, or any coin let me know.
